In continuation of my despatch No. 16 of the let

instant on the subject of the late revolutionary out-

break, I have the honour to forward herewith a Memor-

andum of events, compiled by Mr. Roger E. Lindsell,

a cadet of the Hongkong Civil Service, et present

staioned here for the purpose of learning Cantonese.

I had requested this officer to avail himself

of his knowledge of the language and make personal

enquiry from eye-witnesses and others, who would be

likely to furnish accurate information, so that one

could be in a position to check the wild stories of the

Sir John Jordan K.C.B., K.C.M.G.,

His Majesty's Minister,
